CORONA COVID-19 - SEARCH FOR A VACCINE

                A deadly virus named Corona ( a type of virus ) becomes a great threat throughout the world. All the superpower nations are on the verge of searching for a vaccine to put an end for the deadly corona.

There are 3 important questions surrounding the minds of the world. 

1. When will the vaccine come?

2. Which country will get the first vaccine?

3. How much will it cost?

                   Normally the corona virus causing the deadly disease COVID-19, has a protein molecule like structure in its outer body. It uses that protein molecule like a key and enters into the body cell, where it hijacks the cell organells and starts to multiple within the cell.

                Normally for a vaccine, the scientists take the protein surface of the dead corona virus and injects into the body of a person. Suddenly the immune system of a body starts to produce antibodies to fight against the virus. Now if a corona enters into that body, the antibodies produced by the dead corona will start to fight against the newly entered corona and kills the virus.

    

Now for the search of vaccine, the scientists are following two types of methods.

                The first method is that, taking the protein shell of the corona virus and injects into the body to create antibodies against the virus to kill them. But it's not easy. Because to grow the protein shell in a loboratory needs a lot of time (it may take several years of time). But the rapid increase in the number of corona virus cases has increased in a exponential way. So to produce vaccine by this method is not acceptable.

                 The second method has not done before. In this method, the scientists need not grow the protein shell of a virus in a loboratory for a long time, whereas they take some part of the RNA genetic code of the virus and injects it into the human body. The body now starts to create a corona virus proteins and that proteins starts to fight against the corona virus. In this method, the body itself starts to fight against the virus. We just need to inject some RNA fragments of corona virus into the body.

To invent a vaccine, a lot of steps like testing, manufacturing needs to be done.

A lot of laboratories across the world, starts to find a vaccine as soon as the china's scientists gives the genetic code of the corona virus. 

                During the H1N1 flu in 2009, the Australians finds the vaccine first. So they starts to give to their citizens first. There may be a big concern in this approach. The vaccine needs to be given to the suffered people more fastly than those who invent the vaccine. There may be a voice around the world, if the vaccine for corona virus is invented, it must be given to the needy people irrespective of which country discovered it first.

                 American president Donald Trump starts to give pressure to the pharmaceutical company in Germany, to give its vaccine to America first. This might create a concern around the world. 

Till now, there is no regulatory authority to distribute the vaccine globally. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has no rights in distributing the vaccines globally in a disciplined manner. So the vaccine must be given first to the front line workers. 

                There may be big concern about the price of the vaccine. Because a vaccine needs to be accessed by the poor people. To  and manufacture distribute the vaccine globally it will take upto 3 Billion US dollars. So there may be huge price for these vaccines in the global market. So there may be chance of more private companies to earn huge amount through these vaccines.

 Bill and Melinda gates Foundation, has started to invest more money into the pharmaceutical industries to make profit out of these vaccines. It needs further more investigations on this. Let us discuss this issue briefly in another post. 

                There is a another approach, named as Plasma Therapy. In this method, the scientists takes the blood plasma of already recovered person, and injects it into the affected person. So it may also create a antibody to fight against the corona virus.

There is also a another method, where we are using some medicines like antiviral Remdesivir for Ebola and Hydroxychloroquine for treating Malaria.

                 American President Donald Trump, suggests a new method to cure this corona virus. He tells to use the Disinfectants which we use to clean the floors. He suggests to inject those disinfectants into the human body, to kill the virus. It seems like a joke to the world.

                Whatever may be a good vaccine may saves a lot of lives. For example, WHO declares 26th October as the "Zero SmallPox Day". As we all know the disease SmallPox gets eradicated through a type of vaccine.

               The global idea is to become immune to the corona virus either by recovering from it or by getting vaccinated. Till now, there is no way of escaping from this virus except Social Distancing.
